Apple pandowdy
Ingredients/Components
- cinnamon - 1/4 tsp
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 3/4 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- flour - 1/4 c
- butter - 2 Tbsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- vinegar - 1 Tbsp
- shortening
- hot water - 1 c
- brown sugar, packed - 1 c
- lemon juice - 1 tsp
- dash of nutmeg - 1 item
How to make apple pandowdy:
Combine first four ingredients and cook until thickened, then add vinegar, butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice.Work shortening into dry ingredients as for pie crust. Add milk and mix slightly. Do not overbeat. Have casserole half full of thinly sliced apples. Pour sauce over apples. Spoon batter over top. Bake at 400° for 30 minutes, then at 350° for 15 minutes. Serve hot or cold. If long pan, double the sauce.
