Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 3/4 c
- vanilla - 1/2 tsp
- milk - 1/2 c
- butter or margarine - 1/4 c
- salt - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- egg - 1 item
- pastry or cake flour
- or 5 cooking apples - 4 item
How to make apple grunt:
Pare and core apples. Slice into a 9 x 13-inch baking pan to form a layer about 1/2-inch thick. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.Sift together flour, baking powder, salt and sugar. Add the butter (soft, but not melted), vanilla and 2 tablespoons of milk. Beat well. Add egg and the rest of the milk. Beat well.
Pour batter over the apples. Bake at 350° for 40 to 50 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Serve with milk and sugar.
