Apple fritters
Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1/4 c
- vanilla - 1 tsp
- milk - 1 c
- salt - 1/2 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- margarine - 4 Tbsp
- egg, beaten - 1 item
- cake flour - 3 c
- orange rind and juice - 1 item
- apples, chopped, but not too fine - 1 c
How to make apple fritters:
Beat egg. In a small mixing bowl, combine the milk, egg, sugar and melted margarine. Add orange juice, rind, chopped apples (skins may be left on) and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt and baking powder. Stir into milk mixture with a spoon until blended. Do not overbeat. Preheat oil in a skillet to 350°. Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into hot oil. Fry until golden brown. Turn so they brown evenly. Allow to cool.Note: Peanut oil may be used.
