Ingredients/Components
- sugar - 1 item
- cinnamon - 1 item
- milk - 1/2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- flour - 2 c
- brown sugar - 2 c
- butter - 3 Tbsp
- water - 2 c
- nutmeg - 1/4 tsp
- baking powder - 2 tsp
- shortening - 3/4 c
- to 8 large apples - 6 item
How to make apple dumplings:
Peel and slice the apples into the bottom of a deep baking dish (9 x 9-inch approximately). Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Make a syrup of the brown sugar, water, nutmeg and butter; heat until hot. Blend the flour, salt, baking powder, sugar and shortening. Add the milk; stir until moistened. Drop small portions of dough on apples, leaving space for dough to expand. Pour hot syrup over dumplings and apples. Bake at 350° for 45 minutes.
