  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • butter or margarine
  • flour - 1 c
  • lemon juice - 1 tsp
  • brown sugar packed - 1/4 c
  • can apple pie filling - 1 oz
  • chopped pecans, walnuts or coconut - 1/2 c
  • or 2 drops aromatic bitters, if desired - 1 item

How to make apple crisp:

Butter Crunch:1/2 c. butter or margarine1/4 c. brown sugar (packed)1 c. flour1/2 c. chopped pecans, walnuts or coconut Butter Crunch: Heat oven to 400°. Mix all ingredients with hands. Spread in ungreased baking pan, 13 x 9 x 2-inches. Bake 15 minutes, stir with spoon. Store in covered container in refrigerator. Makes 2 cups.

Apple Crisp: Prepare Butter Crunch. Heat oven to 450°. In ungreased 9-inch pie pan or baking dish, 8 x 8 x 2-inches, mix pie filling, lemon juice, cinnamon and bitters. Sprinkle 1 cup of the Butter Crunch evenly over top. Bake 10 minutes or until top is light golden and bubbly. Serve warm with ice cream. Makes 4 servings.

May substitute pineapple (1 can, 22 ounces) pineapple pie filling for the apple pie filling to make Pineapple Crisp.
