Ingredients/Components
- flour - 2 c
- salt - 1 tsp
- shortening - 1/2 2/3
- ice water - 6 Tbsp
- to 8 apples McIntosh - 6 item
- sugar
- nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
How to make apple cobbler:
Sift the 2 cups flour and salt; add shortening (if it's lard, only use 1/2 cup; if vegetable shortening, use 2/3 cup). Mix up into size of split peas with 2 knives or pastry cutter. Add water slowly by teaspoons. Mix lightly until dough forms. Put layer of dough in bottom of bowl. Save enough dough to put on top.In a pan, put apples, sugar, 2 tablespoons flour and nutmeg; cook and stir over medium heat until almost tender (7 to 10 minutes). Pour over dough in bowl. Put on other layer of dough. Bake 5 minutes at 425°; reduce heat to 325° and bake for 15 minutes.
