  • sugar - 3 Tbsp
  • salt - 1 tsp
  • soda - 1 tsp
  • buttermilk - 2 c
  • shortening - 3/4 c
  • self-rising flour - 5 c
  • yeast - 1 pkg
  • lukewarm water - 1/2 c

How to make angel biscuits:

Dissolve yeast with 1 tablespoon of sugar in water. Cut shortening into flour. Combine buttermilk, soda and salt. Add buttermilk and yeast mixture and remaining sugar to flour. Place in airtight container; refrigerate or roll out on a floured board. Place on a greased pan. Bake at 450° until golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes. Mixture will keep in refrigerator for several days.
