  • sugar
  • cinnamon - 1/2 tsp
  • pkg - 1 oz
  • cornstarch - 2 Tbsp
  • nutmeg - 1/2 tsp
  • stick butter - 1/2 item
  • lemon juice - 2 Tbsp
  • allspice - 1/4 tsp
  • milk or cream - 1 Tbsp
  • medium Golden Delicious apples - 6 item

How to make all american apple pie:

Prepare pie crust according to package directions for a filled 2-crust pie using a 9-inch pie plate. Set aside.

Peel and core apples; cut in thin slices. Melt 1/2 of butter in heavy skillet. Add apples, lemon juice and 1/4 cup sugar. Cook until tender, about 2 minutes. Mix 1/2 cup sugar with 2 tablespoons cornstarch; place in prepared shell. Place apples evenly over sugar mixture. Mix remaining sugar and spices together; sprinkle over apples. Dot with remaining butter. Unfold remaining crust. Using floured small cookie cutter or canape cutter, cut out 5 designs from the center of the crust. Place crust over filling. Fold edges under and flute. Moisten back of cutouts and attach to top of pie. Brush with milk or cream over crust. Bake at 400° for 10 minutes, then at 375° for 45 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or frozen yogurt. Serves 8 to 10.

Note: After 15 minutes, cover edges of crust with strips of foil to prevent overbrowning.

The sugar mixture placed in bottom of shell keeps the pie crust crispy and glazes the fruit.
