Ingredients/Components

  • sugar - 3/4 c
  • salt
  • vinegar - 1 c
  • celery seed - 1 tsp
  • medium onion, chopped - 1 item
  • mustard seed - 1 tsp
  • canola oil - 3/4 c
  • large cabbage, chopped - 1 item

How to make 24 hour slaw:

Bring sugar, vinegar, salt and celery and mustard seed to a boil; add oil. Pour over cabbage and onion. Let stand, covered, in refrigerator for 24 hours. Keeps well.

I sometimes add a small amount of carrot.
